Featured Artist - LJH Pottery
In an ongoing series where we profile the wonderful creatives of Percy's Place, we turn our attention to the face of LJH Pottery - Lynda H! A powerhouse behind the wheel and kiln, Lynda shares some thoughts around her practice and what drives her artistically.
Just a bit about me………….
I am Taranaki proud, born and bred and have been a potter now for over 40 years, being in business for the last nearly 10 years. Creating is my passion!
I prefer hand-building work over the wheel but do both. Textures feature prominently in my work. I try to make a range of wares/art that will appeal to a wide audience. I work with a variety of clays from earthenware to stoneware and fire in my electric, gas Raku, or barrel wood fired drum kilns.
Inspiration comes from the beauty of our natural environment from the mountain to the surf. Right now, I am working on exploring older ancient firing techniques with my Raku and barrel fired kilns.
For me, success is seeing others sharing a love for a piece that I have created... so much so that they want to buy it!!
The biggest creative setback I have faced recently has been the escalating cost structure of our craft which has ballooned since COVID. Managing waste and exploring newer more affordable processes, glazes and firings has become a priority. Being adaptive is critical.
Pottery has become part of my soul and genetic make-up, a journey which has brought so much pleasure and continues to fulfil that creative passion within me.
An extensive variety of Lynda's work is available for purchase through Percy's Place - there truly is something appealing for everyone with Lynda's artwork.
